Dry conditions will cover the entire central U.S. Friday, allowing more harvest progress in the western and northern areas, and giving a chance for some drying in the central and eastern Midwest. However, central Illinois producers will likely be stranded on harvest through the weekend after taking in well over two inches of rain this week. Meanwhile, moderate rain is in store for central and south Texas, which will bring improvement to soil moisture in that area.
Highs: 40s eastern Canadian Prairie, northeastern Plains, northern Midwest; 50s western Prairie, northwestern through south-central Plains, remainder of the Midwest; 60s southern Plains, Texas Panhandle, northern, western, central and eastern Texas, Delta, Deep South; 70s south Texas.
The Pacific Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) is solidly on the El Nino side of the ledger. The Friday value is -27.81 with the 30-day SOI tally at -10.73. Definitely El Nino values.
