Brazil's government is considering a cut in the required ethanol blend from 25 percent to 20 percent, according to easybourse.com, that would help increase availability of the biofuel and reduce ethanol prices. The proposal is being considered to counter a recent spike in ethanol prices in several Brazilian states. In seven Brazilian states the price of sugarcane-based ethanol has moved higher than the price of gasoline. As a result ethanol producers have boosted prices to cover losses related to higher-than-normal rainfall.
