General Motors CEO Tom Stephens said that the company's Chevrolet Volt extended range electric vehicle would not support E85 at the start, Gas 2.0 said.
Stephens' comments came at the Renewable Fuel Association's national conference in Orlando this week. The comments may come as a surprise as in October GM said its Flint, Mich. assembly plant would build a flex-fuel 1.4 liter engine for the Volt.
Gas 2.0 said other GM officials confirmed the decision, based on market analysis.
Alan Adler, GM news relations and communications, told Gas 2.0 that FFV capability was delayed in part because the company plans to rollout the Volt in California, Washington, D.C. and Michigan where E85 is not widely available.
