Bearish Federal Supply Report Spurs Spot Ethanol Selling

Spot ethanol prices traded lower in key regional trade hubs Wednesday on the back of a weekly federal report that showed ethanol inventories in the United States increased last week as domestic production soared to a record high while demand eased to a nine-month low.

Ethanol fuel stocks climbed 500,000 bbl to 17.8 million bbl in the week-ended Dec. 5. Plant production jumped 26,000 bpd or 2.7% to 988,000 bpd while demand fell 20,000 bbl or 2.3% to 836,000 bpd, the lowest since the week-ended Feb. 2.

Prompt Argo ethanol traded at $2.10, $2.09, $2.08 and $2.04 per gallon for a 4-cents loss on the session. January New York Harbor ethanol traded at $1.90 per gallon, down 9.5 cents, while California ethanol traded at $2.07 per gallon, down 10 cents.
