Spot Biodiesel Prices Slide in Thin Markets

Spot biodiesel values eased in early trade today, following a flat session Wednesday, while producers encounter higher feedstock costs, cutting into their margins.

"There is some clean-up selling going on here and there, not a lot of volume trading though," said a trade source.

A broker contended a lot of trades go unreported "because those deals are much higher or much lower than they want the market to see," adding the biodiesel market has never been "transparent."

Chicago, Houston and New York Harbor biodiesel values are all talked 2.0 cents per gallon lower this morning. The latest bid/ask range was $3.48 to $3.58 per gallon for B100 soy methyl esters at Chicago while Houston and NYH SME B100 were at parity, talked at $3.40 to $3.50 per gallon each.
