A solid waste management district in Indiana is set to consider proposals to build a garbage-to-ethanol plant to help mitigate the amount of trash going into a local landfill. According to the Gary Post-Tribune the Lake County Solid Waste Management District is set to receive contract proposals from Genahol-Powers 1 and Indiana Ethanol Powers, and from landfill company Allied Waste. The Post-Tribune said there continues to be doubts about whether a garbage-to-ethanol system would work.
