Advanced Biofuels Grants Named
STREATOR, Ill. (DTN) -- The California Energy Commission has named proposed grant recipients in the "Pilot-Scale and Commercial-Scale Advanced Biofuels Production Facilities" program under the Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program.
CEC said in a news release Friday there is $24 million available for the development of new or the modification of existing California-based biofuel production facilities that can produce low carbon transportation fuels.

"Funding of proposed projects resulting from this solicitation is contingent upon the approval of these projects at a publicly noticed business meeting at the Energy Commission in Sacramento, Calif., and execution of a grant agreement," CEC said.
The awards include $23.183 million for the following biofuels projects.
For diesel substitute awards the following was awarded: American Biodiesel Inc. dba Community Fuels for $4.183 million for increased efficiency for processing low carbon biodiesel feedstocks at an existing biorefinery; AltAir Fuels commercial scale biofuels production facility will receive $5 million; and UrbanX Renewables Group, Inc. will be awarded $5 million for modifying an existing facility to a feedstock flexible, NOx-neutral renewable diesel refinery.
Gasoline substitute proposed awards went to: Calgren Renewable Fuels for an in-state sorghum program, given a grant of $3 million; Pacific Ethanol Development was awarded $3 million for an in-state sorghum program; and Ametis, Inc. was provided $3 million for its sorghum ethanol project.
