EIA Revises 2015 Biofuels Output Lower

OAKHURST, N.J. (DTN) -- The Energy Information Administration expects ethanol production this year to average 944,000 barrels per day (bpd), according to the latest Short-term Energy Outlook published Tuesday, April 7. That's 3,000 bpd lower than last month's estimate and 9,000 bpd higher than the output rate in 2014.

After ethanol production in December 2014 topped 1.0 million bpd for the first time, it is estimated to have fallen to an average of 944,000 bpd in March.

The agency forecasts ethanol production in 2016 at 937,000 bpd versus 942,000 bpd in the March STEO.

EIA forecast biodiesel production to average 82,000 bpd in 2015, down 2,000 bpd from last month's estimate, and 84,000 bpd in 2016, unchanged from a month ago. In 2014, production averaged an estimated 83,000 bpd.

The agency estimates that carbon dioxide emissions grew 0.7% in 2014 and are forecast to rise 0.1% this year and 0.4% in 2016, with both estimates sensitive to both weather and economic assumptions.
