Spot Ethanol Prices Slide on Supply Overhang

Prompt delivered ethanol traded lower in Chicago, New York and along the West Coast, with Chicago area prices posting a fresh three-week low after the Energy Information Administration reported a steep increase in supply while blending demand fell. Total ethanol stocks increased 500,000 bbl to 21.6 million bbl in the week-ended Feb. 20, a near three-year high, with most of the build occurring along the East Coast and in the Midwest.

Spot ethanol at the Argo traded at $1.31 per gallon, down 3.0 cents, while March Argo ethanol traded at $1.345 per gallon, down 1.5 cents. A New York Harbor barge was valued at $1.45 per gallon, down a penny, while California and Arizona spot ethanol traded at $1.50 and $1.51 per gallon, respectively, down 3.0 cents each.
