Spot ethanol prices at the Argo hub near Chicago edged 1.0 cents higher to $1.40 per gallon Thursday in thin trading amid an industry conference, with weekly data from the Energy Information Administration showing demand higher and supply flat lending upside support.

"In terms of report, looks good for ethanol," said Brandon Marshall, analyst for Northstar Commodity in Minneapolis, Minnesota. "Demand was good. I guess the other thing we like is stocks [flat], production up."

EIA reported refiner and blender net inputs of ethanol climbed 26,000 bpd to an 852,000 bpd seven-week high, while supply was unchanged at 21.1 million bbl during the week-ended Feb. 13, albeit at a two-year eight-month high. U.S. production plants ramped up production 3,000 bpd to a 964,000 bpd a three-week high last week.
