CN Fined; CP Sues; STB Seeks More Power

Transport Canada announced that CN Rail would be fined for failing to meet the mandatory minimum weekly shipping volume of 536,250 metric tons of grain. CN has argued that the shortfall is a result of a lack of orders from shippers. (DTN photo by Elaine Shein)
The Canadian government has fined the CN railroad and the CP railroad is suing the government over interswitching rules. In the U.S., legislation is moving forward that would give the Surface Transportation Board more power over railroad service and practices.
