Brazilian Farmers Swing Late to Soy

Soybean acreage is expected to rise between 2% and 3%, to over 80 million acres this season, as farmers believe it will be more profitable than they feared. Anticipating higher profit margins, combined with more credit being available, has led to a late surge in demand for inputs such as fertilizers and chemicals. (DTN photo by Alastair Stewart)
Surging local prices and greater availability of credit in June and July prompted Brazilian farmers to plant more soybeans, thus continuing the 10-year expansion in area.
