OMAHA (DTN) -- Mainly favorable conditions for Brazil and Argentina, variable U.S. weather, and a continuing dry trend for the Southern Plains are the primary weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

MUCH COLDER WEATHER FOR MIDWEST/DELTA

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for episodes of mostly light snow that may mean minor delays to transportation, at times, during the next five days. Very cold weather Friday and Saturday nights are expected, but probably not cold enough to harm wheat in the east and south Midwest or the north Delta. It will be not so cold later in the period.

WARM, DRY TREND FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

Mainly above-normal temperatures and dry conditions will favor livestock in the Central and Southern Plains during the next 10 days. However, it should be cooler during the next five days. Drier weather in wheat areas is expected for at least another seven to 10 days. Soil moisture remains adequate for current needs, but will be diminishing.

PERIODIC BRAZIL RAINFALL

Periodic shower and thundershower activity will maintain adequate soil moisture for soybeans and corn from Rio Grande do Sul to Parana in Brazil. A somewhat drier, hotter trend on Mato Grosso bears watching as it concerns second-crop corn, but there appears to be enough shower activity to maintain current yield prospects for this crop.

FAVORABLE ARGENTINA RAIN

Periodic rain chances and brief hot spells mostly favor corn, soybean and sunflower at this time for Argentina.

MILD RUSSIA TREND

For Russia and Ukraine, temperatures at near to mostly above normal and periodic light to locally moderate precipitation will favor winter grains in the region. However, this pattern will also lead to diminished snow cover there. Snow cover is needed to protect the winter grains from potential winter kill in case the weather turns colder.

RAIN FOR CHINA

Rain will move through southern and eastern wheat areas and rapeseed areas of China at the end of this week and early in the weekend. Light precipitation is seen through northwest wheat areas during this time.

Colder weather follows behind this system and remain in place after that.

However, it does not look cold enough to harm winter wheat or rapeseed.

WARM TREND FOR SOUTH AFRICA

The South Africa weather pattern suggests near- to above-normal temperatures during the next seven days, and near- to below-normal rainfall. However, a few showers and afternoon or evening thundershowers are possible at times. Reproductive and filling crops could use a little more rain, especially in the western and northern growing belt.
