Drier Trend for U.S., Argentina Sees Chance for Significant Rains
OMAHA (DTN) -- A favorable rain outlook for Brazil, a chance for a significant rain event in Argentina, and a dry trend for most U.S. crop and livestock areas, are the primary weather items for the commodity trade's attention Thursday.
MILDER MIDWEST TREND
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for improving conditions for transportation Thursday in the Midwest and mainly open weather during the next seven to 10 days. It will be colder at times, but probably not cold enough to harm winter wheat.
FAVORABLE SOUTHERN PLAINS CONDITIONS
A more moderate temperature pattern for the Southern Plains will favor wheat and livestock during the next seven to 10 days. Cold weather coming southward out of Canada is mostly headed into the Midwest and the northeast U.S. regions with only a minor impact on the Central Plains.

SHOWERS FOR BRAZIL
In Brazil, periodic showers and thundershowers will maintain adequate to surplus soil moisture for soybeans and corn from Rio Grande do Sul to southern Parana. A few scattered showers from northern Parana northward will favor late-filling crops, but may be unfavorable for maturing crops and early harvesting.
CHANCE FOR SIGNIFICANT ARGENTINA RAIN
It appears increasingly likely that a significant rain event will develop throughout Argentina's primary growing areas Sunday into Monday. If verified, this would maintain favorable growing conditions for most crop areas.
VARIABLE RUSSIA AND UKRAINE TEMPERATURES
Russia and Ukraine have a variable temperature pattern at this time. However, damaging cold weather is not expected. This will favor overwintering grains. Soil moisture this spring is expected to be adequate to surplus due to above-normal winter precipitation.
SHOWERS IN SOUTH AFRICA
Scattered light to moderate showers with some heavier amounts were seen during the past 24 hours in South Africa. This will favor crops after a recent string of drier, somewhat hotter, weather. Scattered showers at the end of this week and this weekend may be more in the east and northwest and less in the southwest. No significant hot weather is expected.
COLDER IN CHINA
Colder weather, at times, will increase stress to winter wheat and rapeseed. A severe cold outbreak is not expected at this time, but this pattern will bear watching.
