Open Harvest Week in Midwest
OMAHA (DTN) -- A mild and dry trend for harvest progress in the Midwest, and very little rain for central Brazil, are the primary weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.
MILD WEEK IN MIDWEST
The DTN ag weather forecast calls for more dry and mild conditions for row crop harvest in the Midwest. There is some chance for freezing temperatures in the six-to 10-day period, along with a possibility of showers.
DRY PATTERN FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS
Southern Plains crop areas will be very warm to hot and dry this week. This causes further loss of soil moisture for wheat. The next chance for rain is during the six-to-10-day period.
DELTA TO REMAIN DRY
The Delta continues with a dry pattern this week. Conditions are favorable for corn and soybean harvest. However, soil moisture issues are forming regarding winter wheat.

HEAT AND DRYNESS IN CENTRAL BRAZIL
In central Brazil, very hot and mostly dry conditions continue will affect planting progress in Mato Grosso and Goias with significant stress to any early planted corn and soybeans. Weekend showers in Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul may ease concerns somewhat. However, this week looks dry and very hot again for much of this region. This will slow down planting and hinder development of earlier-planted crops.
WET PATTERN IN SOUTHERN BRAZIL
In southern Brazil, heavy to very heavy rains continue to affect crops in this region. Rain slows early planting of corn and soybeans and is unfavorable for wheat, especially for maturing wheat and wheat harvests.
DRYNESS LINGERS IN RUSSIA
Most areas of Ukraine and Russia had a season-ending hard freeze last week. This will limit development of recently-planted winter grains and may burn back any emerged crops. Meanwhile, dryness is affecting germination and early development of winter grains and has caused some to delay the final planting effort. There appears to be some chance for needed rain and warmer weather over North Caucasus Russia and in southern west Ukraine during this week. There is little hope for rain in very dry areas of east Ukraine or in Russia north of the Caucasus region for at least another seven days.
DRY FOR AUSTRALIA WHEAT
In Australia, light showers fell in southern New South Wales and eastern Victoria during the past weekend. Otherwise, conditions were very warm to hot and dry. This is an unfavorable combination for wheat.
MINIMAL RAIN FOR SOUTH AFRICA
Hot and dry conditions are causing delays in planting for South Africa. A cold front is expected to produce showers in the area later this week. However, this does not appear to be the start of a regular rainfall pattern.
