Beneficial Harvest Pattern

OMAHA (DTN) -- A continued set of favorable conditions for harvest in the Midwest, and dryness in Russia and Australia wheat areas, are the primary weather items for the commodity trade's attention Monday.

MILD PATTERN IN MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for mostly dry and mild conditions across the Midwest. This pattern will favor continued harvest progress for corn and soybeans. Rainfall chances increase during the latter half of the week.

SHOWERS FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

In the Southern Plains, rainfall during the weekend should favor early planted wheat in the Panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma and also in southwest Nebraska. Additional showers will cross the region this week.

WEEKEND NORTHERN SHOWERS

Northern Plains and Canadian Prairies crop areas again have slight harvest delays due to weekend showers. There is little stress otherwise.

DRY TREND IN DELTA

The Delta has a dry pattern with mostly favorable conditions for harvesting of soybeans and cotton. Rain is needed to support winter wheat development.

LIMITED CENTRAL BRAZIL RAIN

In central Brazil, only modest showers are indicated for Mato Grosso this week. Moisture for soybean planting will be scattered.

CONTINUED RUSSIA AND UKRAINE DRYNESS

Dry or mostly dry weather continues to affect germination and early development of winter grains and the final planting effort for at least another week.

MORE DRYNESS IN AUSTRALIA WHEAT

In Australia, dryness and heat during the weekend further reduced soil moisture and increased stress to reproductive and filling winter wheat. Highs reached 91 to 97 Fahrenheit (33 to 36 Celsius) in portions of the southeast growing belt Sunday.

DRY PATTERN FOR SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa has mostly dry and hot conditions in effect. This likely means delays to the early planting effort for maize and is typical during El Nino years.
