OMAHA (DTN) -- Dry and very warm to hot conditions forming in the Midwest, and a hot week ahead for the Southern Plains are the primary weather items for the commodity trade's attention Friday.

DEVELOPING MIDWEST DRYNESS

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for late-week rain in the western and north-central Midwest to maintain adequate to surplus soil moisture for crops. However, drier conditions in the east and south are unfavorable due to poor development earlier this season. The entire Midwest turns very warm to hot and dry in the next week to 10 days, with increased potential for late-season stress.

LIMITED RAIN FOR SOUTHERN PLAINS

A turn to drier and hotter weather during the next week to 10 days in the Southern Plains may be somewhat unfavorable for late-filling crops but it will favor maturing crops and early harvesting. Dry and warm to hot conditions will also diminish soil moisture for planting the next winter wheat crop.

HOT AND DRY IN DELTA

In the Delta, drier conditions with very warm to hot weather will favor maturing crops and harvest progress. Some stress to late-filling crops may also occur with this pattern.

CONTINUED FAVORABLE NORTHERN PLAINS TREND

In the Northern Plains, there are no significant concerns for the spring wheat harvest at this time. Corn and soybeans continue in mostly good to excellent condition.

MILD WEEKEND FOR PRAIRIES HARVEST

In the Canadian Prairies, drier and warm conditions through the weekend will improve prospects for maturing crops and harvest.

HEAT RETURNS TO EUROPE

Hot and dry conditions are returning to southeastern Europe. This pattern favors fall fieldwork, but may further reduce summer crop yields.

NORTHEAST CHINA RAINFALL

In northeastern China, rain and showers favor eastern and northern growing areas at this time. Rain favors any late-filling corn and soybean crops, especially after midsummer dry and hotter weather. Wet weather may be somewhat unfavorable for any early-maturing crops at this time.

DRYNESS REMAINS IN RUSSIA

Dry and very warm conditions remain in place over Ukraine through most of Russia. This favors maturing corn and sunflower crops along with winter wheat planting. However, the drier trend is a concern for germination and early development of the next winter wheat crop.

DRIER TREND IN WESTERN INDIA

Rainfall in India continues to focus on northeast and east-central areas. Northwest and west-central areas remain drier. This may signal an early withdrawal of the monsoon from these locations.
