OMAHA (DTN) -- Widely variable rainfall in the Midwest, and beneficial spring wheat harvest conditions in the Northern Plains, are the primary weather items for the commodity trade's attention Wednesday.

RAIN FOCUS ON WESTERN MIDWEST

The DTN ag weather forecast calls for moderate to heavy rain in the western Midwest during the next five days. The rain will maintain adequate to surplus soil moisture for crops. Eastern areas will be drier and warm. This combination is unfavorable for shallow-rooted crops. Some stressed fields have already moved into mature phases with recent heat and dryness.

LIMITED RAINFALL IN SOUTHERN PLAINS

Southern Plains areas will see a turn toward drier and hotter conditions during the next 10 days. This combination may be somewhat unfavorable for late-filling crops, but it will favor maturing crops and any early harvesting. Dry and warm conditions will also diminish soil moisture for planting the next winter wheat crop.

WARM AND DRY IN DELTA

In the Delta, drier conditions with very warm to hot weather will favor maturing crops and harvest progress.

FAVORABLE NORTHERN PLAINS PATTERN

In the Northern Plains, there are no significant concerns for the spring wheat harvest at this time. Corn and soybeans continue in mostly good to excellent condition at this time.

DRIER WEEK FOR PRAIRIES

In the Canadian Prairies, drier and warm conditions in the next week will improve prospects for maturing crops and harvest.

LATE-WEEK NORTHEAST CHINA RAINS

In northeastern China, tropical system-related rains are expected during the next five days. The moisture will generally be favorable for soybean and corn areas.

WEAKENING INDIA MONSOON

Satellite imagery over the India subcontinent continues to suggest rain in eastern areas, and a dry pattern elsewhere. Hotter and drier conditions remain in the forecast for west-central India crop areas through the balance of this week.
