Study Argues Mandatory Price Reports Show No Pricing Discrimination

A study released Thursday by the National Farmers Union concludes the price basis between U.S. and Canadian cattle was actually narrower in the six years since COOL than the four years before COOL went into effect. Yet, the study does show that the average domestic price for slaughter steers and heifers widened compared to imported cattle throughout 2014. (Courtesy chart)
One of the biggest defenders of country-of-origin labels released a study of USDA mandatory price reporting data which showed the basis between domestic and imported cattle actually narrowed since COOL first went into effect in late 2008.
