Report: 2011 Missouri River Basin Flood Considered Unavoidable

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers had no choice but to release water in June and July 2011 to accommodate the inflow of extreme rains and melting snow and prevent damage to dam infrastructure, such as spillways in danger of being overtopped, according to a new Government Accountability Office report. A new Government Accountability Office report said the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers did all it could to manage snow melt and heavy rain in the 2011 flood of the Missouri River basin.
