Farm Bill Contingency Plans

Closer Call on ARC-PLC Tradeoffs

In the last few months, forecasts of 2014 season-average corn prices crashed low enough to trigger PLC payments and narrow the gap with ARC, according to farmdoc analysis by Carl Zulauf and Gary Schnitkey. If prices slide to USDA's latest low-point estimate -- $3.10 -- both PLC and ARC could pay $79/acre with average yields in 2014. (Graph courtesy Carl Zulauf, Gary Schnitkey)
Unexpectedly low harvest prices narrow the gap between farm program options for 2014 and beyond.
