Summer's Dwindling; Crops Appear to be Thriving

Karen Johnson of Avoca, Iowa, reported some of their corn had two ears, but no kernels on the second ears. She said that for the most part, corn in her area of western Iowa looks good, but a lot of Goss' wilt is showing itself in the whole area. (DTN file photo by Pamela Smith)
As summer dwindles USDA is putting forth a very optimistic look for corn and soybean production this year. Locally focused reports, though, show some questionable areas for record yields.
