Syngenta genetically engineered MIR162 corn to resist pests such as corn borer and corn rootworm. The corn entered the U.S. market in 2009 under the brand name Agrisure Viptera. A second-generation strain known as Duracade was released in 2014. (DTN file photo by Pam Smith)
