Partial Drought Relief In SW Plains

Last week's heavy rain brought a good start to breaking the Texas Panhandle drought, but there's a long way to go.

Here is a comparison of Drought Monitor conditions this week versus last week. In much of the Texas Panhandle and western Texas, along with western Oklahoma, there was a 1-category improvement in drought class--from Class 4 (Exceptional) to Class 3 (Extreme); or from Class 3 (Extreme) to Class 2 (Severe). But there is still much more precipitation needed to fully recover. The forecast for the next week does not offer a very good chance for follow-up rain either. Graphic from Climate Central website.
