The rainfall threat for the major corn and soybean areas of central Argentina late last week was a dissipointment with only scattered light showers with locally heavier observed. Another significant period of dry weather is now in store for the region with temperatures likely heating up again during the latter half of the week after having cooled off with the frontal passage late last week. The only chance of showers during the next 7-10 days appears to be early next week and they are only expected to be light. Increasing stress to pollinating and filling corn and developing and early pod filling soybeans during the next 7-10 days will lead to reductions in crop production. The longer this weather pattern continues the worse things will get.

The dry soybean areas of southern Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul and Parana) did receive some significant rainfall this past weekend with amounts of .50-1.50 inches with locally heavier observed. This eased stress to pod filling soybeans. However we are beginning to hear of some reduction in soybean production from Brazil due to recent dryness. The outlook calls for dry conditions or just a few light showers favoring Parana for at least the next 7 days along with a return to hotter temperatures. This will again deplete soil moisture and increase stress on pod filling soybeans with further reductions in production likely. It also appears that the soybean harvest in the Mato Grosso will continue to be disrupted and delayed due to frequent episodes of scattered showers and thunderstorms. This is occuring at a time when more beans are becoming available to be harvested.
