Open Weekend Ahead

The recent trend to more favorable harvest weather will stay with us for awhile. Dry and mild conditions will again cover the entirety of the central U.S. crop region. This trend is very favorable for crop drying and harvest heading into the weekend.

Highs: 40s/50s Eastern Midwest; 60s Canadian Prairie, northern Plains, northern, central and southern Midwest, northern Delta; 70s central and southern Plains, western Midwest, southern Delta, Deep South; 80s Texas.

There will still be some slow progress in the mid-Mississippi Valley through the Delta. Flood warnings continue from about Quincy IL south to the Gulf Coast. There is still a sizeable amount of ground where production is threatened by the heavy rain and flooding from last month.

Moisture is definitely coming down in soybeans. I received an e-mail from eastern Iowa Wed evening with news of soybean moisture dropping to 13.5 percent. Dan Davidson, DTN agronomist, told me that his soybeans ran as low as 9 percent by Thursday afternoon.

But, corn moisture continues to be all over the place, and still very high in a lot of places. Dan Davidson also told me that his place tested around 30 pct moisture on corn. In contrast, a friend from southeastern Nebraska has corn down to 16 pct coming out of the field. So, it's still a tough call as to just what's going on with moisture. My guess is that, overall, there is still a lot of slow in-field drying that's going on when it comes to the corn moisture content.

Hello this is Shawn Hagberg from Spencer Ne. Soybean harvest is about 90% complete here, little further behind to the north in South Dakota. Corn harvest is a third out. We are use to 90-110 bushel corn in a good year what corn that has been takin out from a low of 150 to an astounding yield of 200. moisture is from 14-25. Bean yields were outstanding also from 50-70, when we are use to 20-40. As we are finding out a lot of crop can come out in a hurry if we have cooperating weather! Thanks!
