Brazil's Second-Crop Corn Area Up 1%: Celeres

Brazilian second-crop planted area will actually rise 1% despite a smaller planting window and projected negative margins, Celeres, a local farm consultancy, said Monday.

Area is pegged at 21.1 million acres, higher than most estimates which forecast a decline in area.

Celeres projected the summer corn crop, which is now 93% planted, at 36.1 million metric tons, up 6.1% on the year before.

As a result, Brazil will produce 85.2 mmt of corn in 2014-15, up 8.6% on the year before.
