KQ-XRN

Sometimes you need to foliar feed N on corn to rescue it from a deficiency and hopefully you'll get it on before its too late. Or in some cases farmers use a foliar feed to just stimulate the plant to grow.

Of course the risk from foliar feeding nitrogen is that it will burn the foliage. and that is why we can't foliar feed UAN on corn.

However there are products like Coron, SRN-28 and now KQ-XRN that is a form of liquid nitrogen that is a safe to apply to a plant. I have written about Coron and SRN-28 before and have used SRN-28 in a rescue situation.

KQ-XRN is another slow release N product and shares the same triazone technology as Coron and SRN-28. KQ-XRN is manufactured by Kugler Company in McCook, Nebraska. It's a liquid, contains 28% N and 72% is slow release. It is this slow release nature that prevent burning.

Coron is promoted as a 5 to 1 product and SRN-28 is promoted as a 3 to 1 product meaning for example that 1 lb of SRN-28 is worth 3 lbs of N in 28% UAN because of improved efficiency. And each gallon of product contains about 3 lbs N and costs $6 (or $2 a lb).

Kugler's recommendation is if 1 gallon per acre of KQ-XRN is applied, take out $6 worth of commercial N from your rate and you'll see a better overall N response due to increased efficiency. It can be applied with herbicides, insecticides or fungicides and can be part of an overall N program.
