Combining on Thanksgiving

Isn't that an awful question to be asking? We should all be taking the day off to spend with our families and friends and be thankful for our bounty.

I plan to harvest corn on Thursday afternoon for a few hours. Our stirator is working and the soil will be fit to traffic after Monday night's rain so we can't wait.

Of course it works out that we aren't traveling to Utah to visit my wife's family till December and my family in Stanton is having Thanksgiving till Saturday and our neighbor and custom combiner is also having his Thanksgiving on Saturday.

So if the equipment works and the weather cooperates, we plan to fill our drying bin tomorrow and then we will have Friday and Saturday off from harvesting and Saturday will be free to celebrate the belated holiday.

And what about you, how will you spend your Thanksgiving Holiday

  • Definitely taking it off to celebrate the holiday
  • Weather permitting, going to combine and celebrate another day
  • Weather permitting, going to combine and take off time for the meal
  • Going to reschedule Thanksgiving so we can combine
  • Don’t want to think about it
  • Going to let my wife decide

Option #3. My wife is hosting Thanksgiving for her family for the first time. We've got 110 acres to go and it's not getting any drier. She'll be mad if I don't stop for lunch though.
