How To?

We have an older Kewanee auger that still has life left in it but unfortunately the auger is lifted with a hand crank.

We have an orbital motor sitting around the farm and I would like to removed the hand crank attachment and mount the orbital motor to the reel holding the cable.

Now I assume the orbital motor will turn way to fast so we will need to slow it down. Do we add a gear reduction mechanism between the orbital motor or do we had a valve that reduces the hydraulic flow to the motor?

I have never done this before and would like some ideas on how to do this. If you have done this before and can offer me advice, please post it here, email me at daniel.davidson@dtn.com or call me at 402-649-5919.

You have to know what kind of orbit motor you have. Some of them are designed to be high torque, low speed. Others are for high speed and low torque. My question would be how to get the winch locked..do you still use the pawl on the winch? I don't think the motor will hold it in place.
