A spokesman for the Food & Drug Administration on Thursday refuted an article posted on an organic group's website that had stated FDA officials had been holding closed-door meetings with representatives from major food companies. The article had stated the food companies were seeking to create an FDA-approved label for foods containing ingredients from biotech crops.

The FDA spokesman emailed me late Thursday stating that the report is erroneous and no such meeting had occurred.

The FDA has come under criticism recently from journalists over lack of response to basic inquiries so I have to say I was pleasantly surprised that the FDA responded to my questions about the story.
