House May Need to Use Mayan Calendar

There is little or nothing to update on the farm bill. The House of Representatives isn't in today. House members, with that whole fiscal cliff stuff hanging over their heads, will roll into work Tuesday at 2 p.m. for legislative business. Votes might occur starting at 6:30 p.m.

The weekly legislative calendar released by Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., shows mostly legislation to be considered under suspension of the rules, but doesn't list any possible activity for the farm bill. Effectively, any House action on the farm bill now apparently will at least get kicked into December.

The good news at least some courthouses and post offices will be renamed this week. The people's work is never done.

As of now, the House meets eight days in December with the 14th pegged as the last day of the lame-duck session. At least the Mayan calendar goes until Dec. 22.

Perhaps, if the Mayans are about to leave the planet, they could take a few Congressmen with them.
