Climate Bill Returns to Spotlight on Capitol Hill

Environment and the climate bill will return this week in Washington, D.C., as the major focus of debate.

It starts Tuesday, at 9:30 EDT. Three events all begin right then.

First, the House Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a subcommittee hearing examining how pollution allowances are being allocated in the American Clean Energy and Security Act, also essentially known as the Waxman-Markey bill.

While that goes on, the National Association of Corn Growers at 10 state affiliates will hold a briefing with some congressional staffers on Capitol Hill on how the Environmental Protection Agency has miscalculated the environmental impact of growing corn to make ethanol.

Segue from that discussion, the Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works will be holding a hearing at the same time on "Scientific Integrity and Transparency Reforms at the Environmental Protection Agency." EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson will testify at that hearing.

There is a reprieve until Thursday afternoon when the House Agriculture Committee holds its hearing on the Waxman-Markey bill.

If you haven't had enough of the climate bill, or you are just beginning to wonder what all of the fuss is about, DTN will have a webinar on the topic hosted by yours truly on Wednesday afternoon. You can sign up for free at

How can anyone with a conscience partake in all of the hoopla of global warming, then sell the right to poison the atmosphere for a few pieces of silver? (carbon credits)
