BP, DuPont to Start Producing Butanol in Next Few Years

BP Biofuels North America and DuPont plan to start producing biobutanol on a commercial scale in the U.S. by 2012 or 2013, according to the Des Moines Register. Susan Ellerbusch, president of BP Biofuels North America, told a subcommittee of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee last week that a demonstration plant is being built in Great Britain. DuPont and BP have formed a joint venture called Butamax to develop the fuel which is believed to cost more to produce but has a higher energy content.
