Corn Index Sags

Last week saw the DTN corn index in the loss column for 4 of the 5 trading days, with a net loss from Friday to Friday of 24 cents.

The soybean index was pummeled last Monday, but seemed to find a toehold the rest of the week, finishing down 9 cents from the previous Friday. The wheat indexes fared better, with the HRW index adding another dime, SRW up 6 cents and the HRS index up 4 cents.

Overnight trade as of 6 a.m. found the soybean futures under the most pressure, off about 8 cents, with corn and wheat near unchanged. The same combination of forces seem to be at play as we start the last week of July, with talk about the weather and crop conditions seeming to dominate a lot of the early comments, and people anxious to assess what the weekend weather may have done to crops.
