Just Small Changes in Lanworth Estimates

Private analytical firm Lanworth Inc. is sticking with Plan A.

The company has made small increases in its production estimates for corn and beans, reflecting better-than-normal growing conditions, especially in the Western Corn Belt, in September, Lanworth Products VP Nick Kouchoukos told me.

The revised numbers they've released to their clients are still well below current USDA projections, he said.

He pointed out that USDA's October revisions took harvested corn acreage down to match the acres Lanworth projected last summer, and USDA also cut harvested soybean acreage.

Assessing test weights is the critical question now, but it's going to be tough to answer since much of the objective yield data USDA uses is still not available since harvest has been so much delayed.

Lanworth said its models have been indicating a lighter than normal test weight in some parts of the country because of the delayed planting and slow maturity pace.
