Demand Bump Boosts Spot Ethanol Prices in Chicago

Physical ethanol traded higher in Chicago's early session Friday, boosted by increased buying interest domestically and export demand. "There are more bids than offers and barges are moving abroad," said a trade source. Prompt delivered ethanol at the Argo hub near Chicago traded early at $1.40 gallon while any February Argo prices traded at $1.42 gallon for a gain of 0.5cts on the session. Chicago ethanol traded under Rule 11 for this week shipment traded at $1.40 gallon, up about 2.0cts on the session.
