Prices of dried distillers grains remained relatively unchanged in the past week in what merchandisers described as a quiet week in trade.

The DTN weekly spot price average remained unchanged this week at $146 per ton. The average has hovered between $140 and $148 for the past month, after dipping into the $130s for most of June.

Of the 36 Midwestern locations DTN collects spot prices from, 27 locations reported that their spot prices remained unchanged since last week. Prices at five locations decreased $5 per ton in the past week, while only four locations had price increases of $5 per ton each.

Merchandisers told DTN that with the exception of small adjustments up or down in a few markets, prices remained relatively steady in the past week with some weaker values this week on new crop.

Some felt the market was waiting to see what USDA's monthly Crop Production and World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates reports will reveal. The reports will be released Aug. 12.

The value of DDG relative to corn remained high, but rose only slightly in the past week, from about 110% last week to about 111% this week. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal also rose from about 41% last week to about 42% this week.

The cost per unit of protein for DDG this week was about $5.84, compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at about $7.37.
