Spot Ethanol Prices Higher on Falling Ethanol Stocks

U.S. spot ethanol prices traded higher after a report by the Energy Information Administration showed total ethanol stocks fell last week even as blending demand eased and output at ethanol plants rose.

EIA said ethanol stocks fell nearly 900,000 bbl to a 5 1/2-month low of 19.8 million bbl in the week-ended June 19, while production increased 14,000 bpd to a record high of 994,000 bpd.

Blender inputs, a gauge for demand, eased from a record high last week, falling week-on-week by 10,000 bpd or 1.1% to 902,000 bpd. Prompt ethanol at the Phoenix hub in Arizona traded at $1.68 per gallon for a gain of 2.0 cents. Prompt ethanol at the Argo traded at $1.53 per gallon, up 1.0 cent. New York Harbor July ethanol barges traded at $1.62 per gallon, up 1.0 cents.
