RIN Values Tumble as EPA Punts on 2014 Biofuels Volume

The value of Renewable Identification Numbers, the compliance credits used to track usage of renewable fuels including ethanol under the Renewable Fuels Standard, has plummeted. This came after the Environmental Protection Agency announced it would delay until next year its final rule on 2014 biofuels volumes, with the rule now a year behind schedule.

D6 RINs generated in 2014 traded from 57.5 cents Thursday to 55.0 cents earlier this morning to 45.0 cents around midday, down 12.5 cents for the session. Biodiesel D4 RINs also fell from 61.0 cents Thursday to 59.0 cents earlier today to 55.0 cents near midday. The RIN market, which is well below Thursday's values, is trying to stabilize in afternoon trade.
