The U.S. Grains Council's efforts to build demand for U.S. grains and co-products in China have resulted in a rapid consolidation of that country's dairy industry, according to an article on the Council's website (http://bit.ly/…).

China's larger, more modern dairies have increased their demand for grains and co-products, consequently, a shortage of people with management skills for such large operations are in short supply.

To assist in the shortage, the Council, in cooperation with Hauxia Dairy Farm, formed the Sino-U.S. Dairy Management training Center in 2006, which has been a highly-regarded program and considered an important tool in helping China's dairy industry keep up with such rapid modernization. The program has also assisted in increased demand for whole corn silage and dried distillers grains with solubles by China's dairy sector.

The Council also recently escorted a team of Chinese dairy herd managers enrolled in the training program to California and Wisconsin to learn about the latest technologies used in the U.S. The team also learned about quality forages, sound herd management practices, and ended with a visit to the World Dairy Expo to learn about cutting-edge research and technologies.
