Chicago Spot Ethanol Prices again Retreat on Oversupply

Spot ethanol prices extended lower in early trade Thursday under continuing pressure from midweek data showing ethanol supply is running ahead of demand, with midweek federal data showing total stocks soared to an 18-month high while demand fell to a 4 1/2-month low.

Today delivered ethanol at the Argo terminal near Chicago was talked without a trade at a $1.64 to $1.70 per gallon bid/ask spread, down 6.0 cents on the day. Chicago ethanol traded under Rule 11 for ethanol for this week transit to the East and Gulf coasts traded 15.0 cents lower at $1.67 per gallon, while prompt Nebraska ethanol was pegged at $1.60 per gallon, down 15.0 cents on the day.
