Spot ethanol prices for Chicago and New York were little changed in thin trade Friday, with many traders on the sideline, trade sources said. The ethanol market was volatile early in the week but paused on Thursday, with attempts to rebound still thwarted by excess supply.

Prompt ethanol at the Argo hub near Chicago traded at $2.19 gallon and was later offered at $2.23 gallon, down 0.5 cents on the day. June New York Harbor ethanol barge was discussed at a $2.20 to $2.23 per gallon bid/ask spread, up 0.5 cents. The market is headed for sharply lower closing values on the week.
