Council Success in Colombia Builds Future Markets
The U.S. Grains Council's successes in marketing U.S. dried distillers grains with solubles to Colombia are key to future trade, according to an article on the Council's website (http://bit.ly/…).
After conducting a successful DDGS feeding trial on more than 1,500 dairy cattle, the Council hosted five key Colombian dairy producers on a trip to the U.S. for a short course on dairy management. The program, offered through South Dakota State University, focused on supplementing grazing based systems with concentrates to increase milk production.

The producers learned how to balance the added cost of feed concentrates with the additional revenue from increased milk production.
The group also toured a number of U.S. dairies, as well as an ethanol plant.
The Council believes targeting the Colombian dairy sector could prove key in expanding DDGS use in the country's poultry and swine industries. Aided by the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement, the Council plans to continue its efforts to expand exports of underutilized U.S. commodities.
