The U.S. Grains Council's efforts to expand markets for dried distillers grains with solubles have proved successful in many areas of the world, according to an article on the Council's website (http://bit.ly/…). In fact, the Council's educational seminars and feed trials, coupled with end-users contact and support, have helped DDGS exports reach 9.7 million metric tons, valued at $2.9 billion, to more than 45 countries in 2013.

For instance, the Council has worked to increase Mexico's purchases of U.S. DDGS, raising the country to the third largest market, by working with end users and importers to develop a smooth flow of exports, as well as conducting feeding trials there.

Other value work of the Council includes:

-- assisting in the inclusion of U.S. DDGS on the Saudi Arabian import subsidy list, creating opportunities for increased future exports and resulting in the purchase of a bulk shipment that reached Saudi Arabia in January.

-- using technical education and consistent trade to increase imports of U.S. DDGS in Southeast Asia by 100,000 tons (nearly 140%) in the past year, and helping raise Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia to the Top 10 list of U.S. DDGS importers.

The Council has allocated more than $1.8 million for the development of the U.S. DDGS export market.
