With Taiwan's swine industry consuming approximately 3.4 million metric tons of feed annually, the U.S. Grains Council is working to maintain this vital export market for U.S. grains and co-products such as dried distillers grains.

According to an article by the Council (http://bit.ly/…), Taiwan's swine industry does not have sufficient technical and support structures to maintain its needs, and is also lacking knowledge of modern technology, equipment and hog production systems, as well as the advantages of U.S. grains and co-products.

The Council is continuing to provide Taiwanese swine producers with current market information. One example was a recent conference held jointly with the National Animal Industry Foundation, the Grain Market Information and Swine Industry Conference. The meeting was held with swine producers, grains buyers and feed mill specialists to discuss production, grain supply and demand and current market conditions.

The conference, held quarterly by the Council, also discussed the Council's Corn Harvest Quality Report which promotes U.S. grains and co-products.
