Spot Ethanol Rallies on Short-covering, Railcar Scarcity
U.S. spot ethanol prices posted steep gains early Friday amid pre-weekend position covering, with limited railcar capacity to deliver the product causing supply shortages in both the East and West coasts while creating a backlog of supply in some Midwest terminals.
Prompt delivered ethanol in the Pacific Northwest traded at $2.63 per gallon, up 3.0 cents on the day. A prompt New York Harbor ethanol barge was talked at $2.55 per gallon, up 3.0 cents on the day. March New York Harbor ethanol barge traded at $2.44 per gallon, up 4.0 cents. Argo terminal near Chicago saw its in-tank transfer ethanol valued at $2.05 per gallon, up 4.5 cents.
