Chicago, NYH Spot Ethanol Down on Rising Supply, Argo Reopening
Spot ethanol prices fell in most regional hubs including Chicago following federal data showing an increase in supply while demand fell and after Kinder Morgan lifted a force majeure imposed earlier this week at its Argo, Ill., terminal.
The force majeure was lifted overnight as weather conditions improved. Wednesday morning, the Energy Information Administration showed total ethanol inventories jumped 3.6% last week to 16.1 million bbl, the highest since Sept. 13, 2013.
Midwest supplies increased to the highest level since April 26, 2013. Prompt ethanol barge at the NYH was pegged at $2.35 per gallon, down 13.0 cents, while prompt transfer ethanol in Chicago was pegged at $2.13 per gallon, down 7.0 cents.
