The U.S. Grains Council has helped with a new Memorandum of Understanding to help end a major logistical bottleneck in Peru that has been hindering the expansion in use of U.S. dried distillers grains with solubles by the country's dairy industry.

According to an article by the Council (http://bit.ly/…), The Council brokered the MOU with Gloria, the largest and most progressive milk processor in Peru that will become effective next month.

Although Gloria is presently the only Peruvian importer of U.S. DDGS, the company believes that the country's dairies could benefit tremendously from using DDGS in rations. However, the DDGS that Gloria imported were not flowing smoothly to the end users, as the company is not a feed manufacturer and is not involved in raw material distribution to local dairies.

The MOU will join Gloria with two raw material suppliers for the dairy sector in an effort to market DDGS, with technical support and marketing from the Council to promote DDGS use to customers.

If the effort is successful, the Council hopes to increase the rate of DDGS by Peru's dairy sector by 300% immediately, with a longer-term goal of achieving a 500% increase. The Council also hopes to expand Peru's utilization of DDGS to the countries poultry and swine sectors.
