The U.S. Grains Council is promoting growth in utilization of dried distillers grains with solubles in Taiwan, according to a news release on the Council's website (http://bit.ly/…).

Although DDGS has been well-established by the Taiwanese feed sector, it currently undervalues the advantages of DDGS due to concerns over limited storage capacity and other reasons.

The Council has begun outreach and buyer education on the advantages of DDGS to promote DDGS utilization in Taiwan by hosting a Taiwanese team in the U.S. to tour the U.S. ethanol industry and to meet with U.S. grain associations.

During the trip, members of the Taiwanese team were surprised with the higher inclusion rates used by U.S. livestock producers and encouraged to increase their own inclusion levels. The team was also impressed by U.S. quality control, especially testing of DDGS for mycotoxins.

Always Taiwan was the seventh-largest importer of U.S. DDGS in 2012; the market is not saturated and continuing education could increase sales from the country.
